Aspects of Leek

The results of the Leek Town Council photo competition, Aspects of Leek, were announced at the Pumpkin Festival at the Foxlowe Art Centre, on Sunday 3 November.

This event brought together the Leek Mayor, Cllr Sue Coleman and the overall winner Alan Lees, who is an active member of the Este Twinning Committee, which organised the Pumpkin Festival. See photo.

Three photographs submitted by Alan had been selected by the judging panel for awards. These included the overall winner, a colourful image taken in Brough Park during the springtime. It is dominated by wonderful pink blossom, framing the spire of St Luke’s church.

Two other photos by Alan were also selected; a landscape, showing hay being harvested in the fields above Ladderedge, and an interesting study of the black and white buildings at the bottom of St Edwards Street.

Having secured the overall winner, as well as two additional awards, Alan Lees was presented with first prize of £90 Totally Locally* Gift Vouchers.

Second in the competition was Christopher Maynard, who also submitted three winning photos and secures a prize of £60 TL Gift Vouchers for (1) Town by the Water (2) The Monument at Night and (3) College by Night.

Other single awards winning £20 TL Gift vouchers went to: Tammy Mellor: Brindley Water Mill.

Jason Bould: Snowscene in Brough Park. Mark Pointon: Narrow boat emerging from Leek canal tunnel.

Roger Warrilow: Image of town rooftops at dawn. Brian Pearson: Mill street after dark.
