Pay it forward charity scheme

A new pay it forward scheme has been launched by the SurviveTogetherLeek group. Set up by LizSalmon, the idea of this scheme is basically a random act of kindness – people who can afford to, can donate an extra few pounds when they make a purchase in a participating shop or business, which can them be used by another customer.
This is done via vouchers which are available in participating shops. You simply write your donated amount on the voucher and pin in on a cork board. The person using the voucher then has the cost of their shopping reduced by the amount of the voucher. Anyone who feels they would benefit from using a voucher is welcome to help themselves but the vouchers are particularly aimed at supporting anyone who has been furloughed or made redundant due to Covid-19.
Participating businesses: Bibelot, Becalmed, The Alphabet Store, The Penguin, Footprints, Monty’s Fish and Chips, The Men’s Den barbers, Em’s catering and inflatables, Coffee Corner Cafe, The Lionhouse Tearoom and Cabbage Rose, Misco’s, On The Level, Moorlands Cookshop, Breckles, No 58 for women’s clothes, Dream Catcher Gifts, Love My Socks & Moorland Wool and Crafts, Leek Post Office, Paws For Thought and last but not least Cathy Bower Photography.

Commenting on the scheme, Deputy Mayor Councillor Lyn Swindlehurst said it exemplifies the amazing community spirit we have in Leek.

“On behalf of the Town Council may I pass on our thanks to all these businesses for supporting this scheme and thanks to anyone who supports it through donating a voucher. We hope the scheme helps to support local people, who need a little financial support at the moment, as well as local businesses.”
